cars : Homegrown Auto Dealingcarscars I paid cash for my first car with nobody’s help. It cost a thousand dollars. It’s a cherry red Subaru Wagon. It didn’t run perfectly, but I got that fixed. So many issues. It won’t pass the North Carolina State Inspection. It either has the check engine light disconnected or missing or never installed in the first place. My repair guy took so long returning it to me that I missed the DMV Regulations Office inspecting it there. So, here I sit with a car in my driveway that I bought. I can not drive it. I’ve received several calls about it. I’m taking a chance on police harrassment, eviction from my humble abode behind it. When I purchased this vehicle from a private owner, I was in the mindset that the country had a “Lemon Law” in place. I haven’t bought a car that didn’t pass anything before. Why is this car even circulating. It came all the way from the state of Vermont and made its way to me. It’s kind of ridiculous. I figure I’ll probably do better to sell it piece by piece. But, I’m being patient. I thought I was lucky and had found a “steal.” I always try to keep my hopes up. At this moment, I feel I have no hope. Don’t want to think about anything else. No Easter or anything. Everytime I have something important to handle a holiday appears. So, it’s Saturday and I must wait until Monday. The car has failed not one, but TWO state inspection. I spent $300 on repairs. Silly me, I really thought I could get some help with repairs with that much money. We were trying to just get the car to pass inspection. That is all. My Inspector told me to bring the car back to him after repairs. My repair guy said he had a guy who could help the car pass inspection. So, now I’ve spent $1300 on this car and buyers have only offered me $300. That is $1000 down the drain. Is this how these states make money? By letting cars circulate and not pass state inspection and the little guy learns a $1000 + lesson? $1000 that could have caught my rent up. Or paid off these high utility bills. I can’t even move forward, I’m so stuck on this insanity. I called the nearest Subaru Dealer, and they want $80+ to just “check” the car out. The reason I stuck with the $300 repair guy is because he charged nothing to look at the car. He said everything in the car looked good except the oil filter and some other minor issues.
